Carnival Cruise Lines puts the kibosh on cougar cruises

According to the Society of Single Professionals, Carnival Cruise Lines has rejected their bid for another cruise. Why, because the California-based group hosts cougerevents.com. Events designed specifically for cougars, adult women and the younger men who love them. A Carnival rep, told the group, "We have decided not to have any future groups on our ships booked on this theme." As Carnival tries to shed its hard partying image, other cruise lines are welcoming the single professionals. The spring Cougar Mexican Riviera Cruise takes place May 16-23, and departs from Los Angeles aboard Royal Caribbean International's Mariner of the Seas.

DOT reports airline on-time performance was best in 2009

According to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) 2009 was a great year for airline passengers! A report recently announced more flights were on-time and fewer bags were lost. Nineteen airline carriers increased on-time performance rates and recorded an overall on-time arrival rate of 79.5 percent in 2009, an improvement over 2008's rate of 76.0 and the best annual record since the 82.0 percent on-time rate of 2003. In addition, the carriers recorded a mishandled baggage rate of 3.91 per 1,000 passengers in 2009, an improvement over 2008's 5.26 and the best mark for a calendar year since the rate of 3.84 recorded in 2002.

Princess Cruises introduces the "Bon Voyage Experience"

Princess Cruises is reviving a sailing day tradition aboard their ships, and they are calling it the "Bon Voyage Experience." The program offers passengers a chance to invite guests to join them onboard for four hours during sailing day for a four-course dining room lunch with wine, a ship tour and souvenir photo. Passengers and guests receive priority embarkation. Bon Voyage is $39 per person, which can be applied toward a future Princess cruise. The program will debut in March in the ports of Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, and then roll out to New York, San Francisco and Seattle.

American Airlines adds stand by fee

American Airlines non-premium passengers will have to pay a $50 fee to fly stand-by, effective on fares purchased on or after Feb. 22. The new fee will buy passengers a confirmed seat for same-day flight changes for domestic travel. Alternate flights must be for your same itinerary and your flight change can only be confirmed within 12 hours of departure of the desired flight. The new charge will apply flights in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada and the Caribbean on American Airlines, American Eagle and AmericanConnection. Elite frequent flyers, military fares, first and business class travelers are exempt from the charge.

Starting Feb. 1, 2010, US Airways will charge $23 to check the first bag online, and $32 to check the second. Previous online baggage fees were set at $20 and $30.
