The 33rd America’s Cup race moved to Wed. due to lack of wind

The America’s Cup race has been postponed until Wed. Feb. 10, 2010. Race officer Harold Bennett could not find a wind which was settled enough and of sufficiently even strength to support the giant multihulls across the proposed 20 miles first leg. Racing resumes at 10:06 a.m. (4:06 a.m. EST) Wednesday. Races One and Three will be contested over a 40-mile upwind-downwind loop, while Race Two covers 39 miles around an equilateral triangle course comprising a 13-mile beat and two 13-mile reaches.

Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology moves to Eastport, ME

The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology has moved its office to a new location, in The Boat School, 16 Deep Cove Road, in Eastport, ME 04631. Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology is the only nationally accredited distance-learning school of small-craft design in the United States. According to Westlawn director, Dave Gerr, “Westlawn Institute will work with The Boat School, which specializes in teaching boatbuilding, and which is the oldest school of boatbuilding in the United States.” The Boat School is an affiliate of Husson University, which has several satellite campuses throughout Maine, in addition to its main campus in Bangor.

Show producers, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), have expanded their offerings to showcase some of the best deals buyers have seen in years. Attendees can browse thousands of boats and marine accessories including runabouts, sportboats, fishing boats, cruisers, personal watercraft, jet boats, inflatables, luxury yachts and high-performance boats. Boats 15 to 85 feet will be located in the Miami Beach Convention Center and powerboats can be viewed in-water at the Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center.
